How it works

"I drink it when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty." – Madame Bollinger

  • Under the stewardship of Ghislain de Montgolfier (the great, great grandson of Jaques Bollinger) the House of Bollinger is one of the few independent family-owned and managed Champagne Houses still producing all its own wines. Its large vineyard ownership guarantees the consistency in style of Bollinger. Control over the grape quality is unique to Bollinger, and Bollinger selects only the Cuvée juice (free run juice). Bollinger uses oak barrels for the first fermentation, which is now extremely rare, and bottles are still corked in the traditional manner.
  • Special Cuvée is an ideal version of the classic Champagne blend; using the different grapes of a given year from a variety of crus, with the addition of older, reserve wines. This blend necessarily incorporates subtle variations each year whilst remaining consistent to a style.
  • Pinot Noir, giving strength and structure and a highly complex background, is the base of the Bollinger Champagne. Chardonnay adds a note of elegance and refinement, while Pinot Meunier gives a touch of freshness and lightness.

  • Special Cuvée' blend is the perfect expression of the Bollinger style and is the most representative blend of the House. It is a subtle marriage of crus and grape varieties, of wines of the year and wines from earlier vintages. The blend is re-created in proportions defined every year. Therefore, it remains, in consistency and quality, the perfect expression of the Bollinger style and, is the hardest of all to make. It contains the full expression of the Bollinger style and Bollinger feels it should be judged on this – its benchmark wine.

  • In July 1884 Queen Victoria attributed the Royal Warrant to the House of Bollinger making it an official purveyor to her Court. This was a precious recognition and would subsequently be renewed, uninterrupted, by every single British sovereign up until the present day.

  • So bid now and be sure of your demi-cache in time for Christmas. With a half case of 'Bolly' whether you’re the guest or the host, you’ll certainly be the toast of any party!
