Well, there was an interesting little scuffle out in the HD playground for a while there. HD-DVD put up a good fight for a little while, but against Hollywood's darling, the Blu-Ray, it didn't really stand a chance.
So... hello Blu-Ray and this terrific example right here in our Auction line-up: Sony's BDP-S300.
This great little Blu-Ray Disc player has universal appeal, and not just because of its value-for-money price tag.
Even your existing collection of DVDs can look better thanks to the 1080p upscaling feature that works with HDMI-equipped 1080p-capable HDTVs, enhancing and sharpening the picture as you watch. Naturally, we're assuming you've already purchased your HDTV from us!
The BDP-S300 comes with a little something called 24p True Cinema. Cine cameras actually film at 24 frames per second, but televisions operate at a higher frame rate, so a conversion has traditionally been necessary. The result is a 4% discrepancy from the original. But when you have your BDP-S300 connected to the tele, with its 24p capability, the original 24 frames per second are played just as the camera first recorded them. You get to see and hear exactly what the director intended.
This Blu-Ray disc player also has BRAVIA Theatre Sync technology - one press of a button and everything is ON and another for OFF... none of that switching on several gadgets and swopping remotes to finally get to watch what you want.
Also supported is the new x.v.Colour standard. Previously the international standard for defining colour was RGB - now there's x.v.Colour. This means that your new Blu-Ray Disc player can handle HD discs recorded by new-generation camcorders that use x.v.Colour - the result: far more natural and lifelike colours.
And don't worry about your old discs languishing on the shelf gathering dust... the BDP-S300 can handle a wide variety of formats and media, including CD, BD-ROM, DVD, and DVD video playback from DVD/DVD±R/±RW encoded discs, BD-R/RE discs as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG images stored on DVD±R/±RW discs.
You know you've got to have one... go on... bid for Blu-Ray!
