London's Sloane Square was named in his honour and on his death his extensive collection was bequeathed to the nation and formed the foundation of The British Museum.
- But far more important than any of the above, is that while exploring the Caribbean in the seventeenth century, he discovered the partnership of milk and cocoa beans and developed the first recipe for hot chocolate.
