Chaise Longue by Lukasz Opalinski

Lukasz Opalinski, the creator of this striking piece of art, received the “New Designers” award for this interpretation of the chaise longue when he exhibited at the Design Exhibition in Islington.
‘Indulgence’ was described by art critic Robin Dutt as “a futuristic sculptural masterpiece… breathtakingly beautiful, but also functional; … a paean to the power of nature”
A limited edition of nineteen in highly polished aluminium and nine in bronze will be produced. The aluminium version costs £23,700 and the bronze costs £47,400. Sixteen have already sold, but we are delighted to offer the chance to bid for one here.

You will have the chance to talk to the artist before your Indulgence is produced and can specify some unique specification to keep yours absolutely unique. You could perhaps add lamb’s wool, silk or leather upholstery that is easy to fit and remove.
This is a rare opportunity to own a stunning work of art which is not only beautiful to behold, but a spectacular way to relax and we would hope might be an intelligent investment for the future at the same time.

About the artists

Lukasz Opalinski was born in Poland in 1979. Attended ZSM Technical academy studying technical illustration and design technologies, where he developed skills in the fabrication of wood, metal and plastic. It was at this point his fascination with form and function was first conceived. Inspired by the world’s greatest “designer” Mother Nature, he began his journey of creation through countless pages of a sketchbook.

In 2004 he enrolled to Buckinghamshire Chilterns University. During his two year HND course, Lukasz exhibited at London’s esteemed graduate show, NEW DESIGNERS, where he won the New Designer of the year (RSA) award in both 2005 and 2006. Finally, Lukasz finished his education in 2007 (BA) product design at London Metropolitan University. After running his design studio in Southampton for two years he relocated to Miami. Inspired by vast volumes of surrounding water, he fell back into arms of one of his earliest passions…yachts.

In November 2009, Opalinski presented one of his first ultra modern motor yacht concepts at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Several large European Shipyards took a strong liking in his designs and ultimately presented him with an opportunity to design an 85-meter yacht. Fast-forward five months and the fruit of their collaboration, “Magnitude”, was unveiled at Abu Dhabi Yacht Show 2010.

This lot is for a numbered one of nineteen limited editions Indulgence chaise longue in polished aluminium by Lukasz Opalinski.
Subject to availability, you will have the chance to upgrade to a bronze version at additional cost that will be quoted when you win.
Subject to the artist’s approval, you will have the chance to specify any personal additions that you wish to have, all of which will be subject to additional cost.
Upholstery is in addition and is created to the individual specification of the client. (Guide price for leather and lamb’s Wool upholstery: £1,550).
Editions of Indulgence are accompanied by a leather bound Edition Certification journal.
We will require a deposit of 50% of your winning bid amount and the balance along with any extras will be due prior to delivery.
The lead time for editions of Indulgence is 8-10 weeks from the time of order confirmation and receipt of deposit in cleared funds.
All prices are subject to sales/import/export taxes/duties and packing and shipping costs which, when applicable, must be paid in addition to the winning bid amount.
If required, Auctionair can arrange for you to talk to the artist about your piece and visit the workshop to see your indulgence being made.
